Tips for a successful thinger

Looking to deploy some iot, thinger seems really promising and seems to give me just what I need… however, the following are making me not want to use it.

  1. Server code missing? https://github.com/thinger-io/Server-Core
  2. A lot of client code needs to be written (100% ok if not for #1)

I’m afraid to make a time investment in something that isn’t opensource. I’ve had too many projects decide to shut down in the past meaning I end up wasting my time.

If you need to make money, I’d recommend:

  • Open Sourcing the core server
  • Charging a small monthly fee for the low-end hobby hosted version. (3-4 USD? / month)

If that was the business model, I’d get behind it pretty quickly and not have any reservations launching with thinger.io.
