Dashboard Creation through API

Dashboard API doc says “work in progress”. Any progress going on? Is there the ability to create a dashboard through an API call? As we are looking to progress into our own amazon server setup adding devices and dashboards needs to be automated through HTTP API calls. Is there any time line on this working? Or does it work now and there is just no documentation for it?
